Exeter House has two training establishments, Exter House Stables and historic Warren Place. Jonathan has unrivalled facilities at his disposal to ensure our equine athletes are in peak condition.
Gallops
Set in 2800 acres of fully maintained grounds we have over 50 miles of turf and 17 miles of artificial gallops to choose from, all different to suit every horse. There are the world famous 'Limekilns' grass gallops that many famous horses have used for their final preparation for race day and the very steep Warren Hill which has three different artificial surfaces as well as turf gallops.
Schooling Grounds
There is a designated area in Newmarket for National Hunt horses including a loose school, gallops and schooling fences. Trainer Jonathan Jay has a dual purpose training licence so we are able to race under both codes.
Covered Ride
The covered ride has given Jonathan an early season advantage, as our horses can be trained at a canter, while those using the gallops were kept at home due to icy or hard ground.
Lunge Ring
Excellent facility for 'breaking-in' young horses, it is where they will learn all the different commands and be ridden for the first time.
Horse Walker
The walker is a valuable aid as it allows a horse to be exercised without a rider. This is of great benefit for young horses starting their training career and for horses returning to training after a break.
Trotting Ring
Normally used as a warm up before going on the gallops, it is also a good place for Jonathan to check that the horses are moving well before cantering.
Starting Stalls
It is very important that a horse has become accustomed to the starting stalls, before they have their first racecourse experience. We not only have our own stalls on site but we also have the use of stalls situated on the gallops.
